TL;DR 3/27/12: Playstation Network, Flying Bird Man, Mass Effect 3, Ghost Ship

TL;DR 3/27/12: Playstation Network, Flying Bird Man, Mass Effect 3, Ghost Ship

Okay, you may have noticed that I missed a couple of TL;DR’s. That’s because over the weekend I went to St. Louis for the Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds Symphony. It was amazing and I recommend you go to one if you ever have the chance. Anyway, let’s get this thing started. It looks like researchers at MIT have discovered that memories are stored in specific neurons and can be triggered at will. Take that knowledge and throw a little technology at it and we may eventually be able to sell memories. I can’t wait to blurt out, “I know Kung-Fu,” without it being a joke.

Everybody Slow Clap

I really don't have the proper words to make fun of this guy as hard as I should.

What would be your brilliant scheme to hide out if you were an AWOL soldier? Would you steal a billionaire’s identity and use his debit card to pay your bills? No, huh? You sure? Yeah, you’re right. That does sound like it could draw some attention. Too bad nobody told Brandon Lee Price that.

Not Today

It would've been cool to see what amazing creations would have popped up.

Two PSP titles have been pulled from the Playstation Network because they can be used to in a Vita exploit. The exploit allows homebrew programming to run on a Vita in PSP mode. Hot Shots Tennis and MotorStorm Arctic Rift are going to be unavailable until they figure out a fix. Either that or the games are gone for good.

Psych!

The only Birdman I'll ever need.

The flying bird man turned out to be a hoax. It was the work of a Dutch CGI artist who’s pretty good at his craft. That’s a shame because it would have been awesome.

Ahhhh… My Brain

Now with 30% less effect.

Ok, if you haven’t been paying attention lately, I’ll bring you up to speed. A lot of people were unhappy with the ending of Mass Effect 3 so they took to the internet and now it’s going to be changed. The really bad thing is that one group was using Child’s Play to get attention for their cause. People were unsure who they were actually donating to, so it caused a huge mess. I miss the days when people finished a game, discussed it for a while, then moved on. Now we’ve got a world full of people with an unwarranted sense of entitlement that gripe until they get their way. Shame on you, Bioware, for giving in to them.

Surprise!

Is that a dead Conehead?

A ghost ship that was lost since the tsunami in Japan was spotted about 100 miles off the coast of Canada. I think it should be renamed Harbinger. Why? Because as early as this October the west coast could start seeing debris from the disaster.

I’ve been playing Armored Core V quite a bit and I think for the first time ever I’m going to end up getting a couple months of Gold for my Xbox Live account so I can do some multiplayer action on it. What have I become? If you have a copy and want to play send me your gamertag in the comments or on Twitter, @kelknaughty.

TL;DR 2/24/12: Robofish, Sony, J.K. Rowling, Bleach

TL;DR 2/24/12: Robofish, Sony, J.K. Rowling, Bleach

I think we can all agree that censoring some gamertags on Xbox Live is a good thing. What really sucks is when your actual last name gets censored because it sounds like it might be offensive. Let’s all take a moment to think about Christopher Gooche and his plight. Poor guy.

Come With Me If You Want To Swim

The resemblance is uncanny!

Scientists are up to their old tricks, this time they're using robots to lead fish. They got a school of fish to join up with a fish-bot. The robots could potentially be used to steer schools of fish away from dangerous or polluted areas. They could also be used by fishermen to steer an entire school of fish right into a net.

Heads Up

There's a flame war raging on Sony's forum, so tread carefully.

Sony has scheduled maintenance for March 1st so people aren't going to be able to sign in and people that are already logged in will be automatically logged out. Stay classy, Sony. This time I'm not being sarcastic. Make a note of this, it doesn't happen often.

What's Next?

Man, I would love to... OH! I didn't see you there. I was going to say, "pick her brain." Pervert.

J.K. Rowling has a new book, but it's not for kids. While I would love to see a continuation of Harry Potter, especially if it was with a brand new character after the events of the final book, I hope it's something brand new. The title, plot details, and publication date will be announced later this year.

Cautiously Optimistic

I seriously want to see this stuff in live action.

Warner Brothers and VIZ are teaming up to make an American live-action Bleach movie. What do you want to bet it'll be white-washed to hell and back? Hopefully I'm completely surprised and they make a great movie that's worthy of the massive pile of money that people will throw at it.

That's it for this week. I'm @kelknaughty on Twitter if you have anything you want to say or a website you think I need to keep an eye on. I'll be back, bright and early on Monday.

TL;DR 1/17/12: Piracy, THQ, Entertainment Software Association, Xbox Live

TL;DR 1/17/12: Piracy, THQ, Entertainment Software Association, Xbox Live

Alright, let’s get this party started. Did you hear about the amazing looking Steve Jobs action figure made by In Icon? I’ve got some great news if you already have one. His family has threatened legal action, so there aren’t going to be any more made. What that means is that there is now a limited number of them in the wild. If you hang on to that bad boy, it could be worth some serious cash in the future.

Pirate Hunt

Only 8 months and 2 days until International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Here's hoping some game developers get into the spirit.

It turns out that some companies have found a different way to go after accused pirates. Extortion. Let’s say you get accused of downloading a game. Some companies have been using a loophole in German law to ask for a ridiculous sum of money in exchange for the case being dropped. Don’t get me wrong. Piracy is a bad thing, but so is demanding $1000 or more or else. How about a compromise? You get caught illegally downloading something, you have to pay two or three times what you would have paid normally. That sounds reasonable to me. There are bigger issues we have to worry about. Namely, SOPA and PIPA.

Deny, Deny, Deny

Have you ever wondered what that stood for? Apparently it's Toy Head-Quarters. It's weird, but I've never thought about it until just now.

There’s a big rumor going around that THQ has canceled its entire 2014 lineup. Well, they’ve heard the rumor and are now in full denial mode. It’s not completely unheard of that they’d be gearing up to sell, because the company has been making staff cuts. It looks like we’ll just have to wait and see. All I know is that they need to make another Destroy All Humans! game.

Say It Isn’t So

I looked up "douchebag" in my Pocket Insult Dictionary and was surprised to see the picture of the cast of Jersey Shore replaced with this.

Apparently the ESA has paid close to $200,000 to lobby for PIPA. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I wonder where they got the money… hmmm. I can rest easy knowing that when I get a Humble Bundle I give all the money to Child’s Play, so it wasn’t me. Can you say the same?

What, Me Worry?

In a world where every system boot is a game of Russian Roulette...

More and more people are claiming to have had their XBOX Live accounts “hacked.” Microsoft is claiming that the issue is with malware, phishing, and other devious behavior. An increasing number of people are becoming convinced that it’s an issue with Microsoft’s security. There isn’t any evidence that Microsoft has been hacked or anything like that, but it makes me wonder if people are still giving out their passwords left and right. I guess when all else fails, blame the customer.

Well, it looks my time with you has come to an end. Shhh, don’t speak. I wouldn’t be able to hear you. Just know that what we had was special. If you feel the need to stalk me on Twitter, feel free. My name is @kelknaughty, I’m making this reference. Prepare to chuckle. Get it? GET IT!?
