TL;DR 2/6/12: Ice Hole, Mass Effect: Deception, Resident Evil: Revelations, Final Fantasy X

Oh, joy of joys. It’s Monday again. Let’s just dive right in, shall we? Starting tomorrow the Playstation Network is going to be rebranded the Sony Entertainment Network. E-mails are going out letting members know that the terms of service are changing. I’m sure there will be some kind of announcement later this year that helps makes the name change seem less pointless.

Time For A Celebratory Snow Cone

Come on, the joke was practically jumping up and down and screaming, "Pick me!"

Russian scientists have drilled a hole through 13,000 feet of ice in order to get to an underground lake in Antarctica. To prevent contamination they're going to let the water rise up into the tunnel and freeze and then remove a sample. This is the first time in about 20 million years that the lake has been exposed to light or air. It would be pretty amazing if it was teeming with life.

Let me know if I milk this joke too much. Is this the limit? Can I do it one more time? Please? DON'T STIFLE MY CREATIVITY!

Mass Effect: Deception was riddled with errors. Bioware admits it and they're going to fix the book for future editions. I'm not going to blame Bioware. I'm going to blame the author. He shouldn't have tried to bullshit his way through a paycheck. I'm not saying that's what he did, but that book seemed pretty half-assed.

Wow. Just, Wow.

"Maybe I shouldn't have bet you $500 that I could edit this with a blindfold on. My bad." - Imaginary newly unemployed man

Resident Evil: Revelations had a pretty interesting error on the packaging sent to reviewers. The title of the game was misspelled. It gets better. The exact same printing error made it to retail. If you got a copy with the misspelling you can call Capcom Customer Service at 650-350-6700 and they'll ship you a corrected insert. I would recommend that you put the original somewhere safe because it may be worth something someday.

Remaster, Repackage, Resell

While at the Taipei Game Show Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto answered some fan questions about Final Fantasy. When he was asked about the upcoming Final Fantasy re-release he made it clear that it wasn't a remake, it's a remaster.

That's about it for now. I'll be back again tomorrow whether you want me to return or not. Deal with it. If you're one of the few that wants more check me out on Twitter @kelknaughty.

TL;DR 2/1/12: Pfizer, Pirate Bay, Skyrim, Mass Effect

You’ve heard of Zynga, haven’t you? You know how they like to… let’s say repurpose games and make their money without really having to make a whole new game from scratch? Well, there’s an internal memo that outright says that’s what they do. If you don’t feel like reading the whole thing I’ll paraphrase: It’s not who did it first. It’s who made it best.

Congratulations On Your New Lawsuit!

You take the red pill, you get to live a carefree life. You take the blue pill and you crank out a couple extra kids.

I suspect Pfizer is going to be taken to court a few times. Why? Because some lots of their birth control pills were packaged incorrectly and could prove ineffective in preventing pregnancy. Whoops!

It Was A Long Fight

Jail. Pirates. Semen. The pieces are all there. See what I did? I made the joke without making the joke.

The founders of The Pirate Bay have been sentenced to prison terms. They'll also be paying $6.8 million in damages. It's not all bad. They'll be going to a Swedish prison if they even end up having to serve their sentences. I imagine this whole thing would go down a bit differently in America.

Time To Mod Some Magic

Just when I get away, they pull me back in.

The Skyrim Creation Kit is almost here and it's looking pretty good. Team that with Skyrim Workshop on Steam and it all seems like a good dream. If you've ever had to deal with updating mods for a game you know just how much of a pain that can be. Skyrim Workshop is going to solve that problem by automatically updating your mods if needed.
